Meet Kenny Lieux – Candidate for Vermilion Municipal Court Judge

Kenneth “Kenny” Lieux brings more than 30 years of courtroom experience to his candidacy for Vermilion Municipal Court Judge. A lifelong advocate for justice, Kenny has served the people of Lorain and Erie Counties as both a former prosecutor and a respected criminal defense attorney, earning a reputation built on honesty, fairness, and integrity.

A native of Elyria, Ohio, Kenny graduated from Elyria High School in 1976, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University in 1980, and received his Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1983. He is licensed to practice law in Ohio, California, the Federal Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the United States Supreme Court.

Kenny was Rule 20 Certified and has been named lead trial counsel in numerous capital murder cases, a distinction that reflects his legal skill and deep commitment to due process.

He is an active member of the Lorain County Bar Association, Erie County Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Born the fifth of eight children, Kenny understands the values of hard work, family, and community. He and his wife Alisa Lieux (née Velasquez) live with their blended family and beloved dogs in Vermilion/Brownhelm Township, where they are proud to be part of the vibrant community he hopes to serve from the bench.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

Kenny Lieux brings over 40 years of legal experience to his candidacy for Vermilion Municipal Court Judge. A seasoned litigator, he has served as both an Acting Judge and Rule 20 certified Lead Trial Counsel in capital cases. His career includes roles as Assistant Public Defender, Prosecutor, and Arbitrator, with appearances in every Municipal Court in Ohio. Licensed in Ohio, California, and the U.S. Supreme Court, Kenny is deeply committed to community-focused justice.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Kenny Lieux has a long record of public service, including roles as Acting Judge, Lorain County Metroparks Commissioner, and member of the Lorain County Corrections Planning Board. He chaired the Vermilion Civil Service Commission and served on the Lorain County Bar Association’s Legal Ethics and Grievances Committee. A dedicated member of the community, Kenny has also volunteered as a youth soccer coach, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to serving Vermilion as well as the broader Lorain and Erie County areas.

LEADERSHIP

Kenny Lieux has shown strong leadership through decades of legal service and community involvement. He has led in the courtroom as Acting Judge in Vermilion and Elyria, and as Rule 20 certified Lead Trial Counsel in high-level criminal cases. Outside the courtroom, he has chaired the Vermilion Civil Service Commission and serves on the Lorain County Metroparks Board and Corrections Planning Board—demonstrating trusted leadership in both legal and civic roles across Northern Ohio.
